Job Summary

Under the direction of the GM - HR, the role holder shall be responsible for developing and improving upon existing health and safety (H&S) and Compliance programs. This role will include management of existing H&S and Compliance protocols of staff, visitors, contractors and neighbors as well as Factory Compliance.

Job Description / Requirements

Key Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Implement facility safety and compliance work procedures. Oversee safety and compliance interventions in the factory; promote improvements through participatory approaches; drive compliance culture and support productivity.
  • Implement risk assessment for operational and project (non-routine) activities and maintain management plans; coordinate machine safety and compliance checks within the facility to avoid incidents and accidents.
  • Coordinate internal training, safety and compliance induction for new staff, pep talks and coordinate briefings with security team for all visitors entering the factory; carry out supplier safety and compliance assessments.
  • Ensure that weekly Product Safety Audit (PSA) and Responsible Sourcing Audits (RSA) are completed, reviewed and submitted to Quality team for onward transmission to applicable client(s).
  • Implement, track and follow up to close out safety and compliance actions from internal and external audits, carryout daily walkthroughs and weekly facility inspections and highlight findings requiring action to relevant focal points.
  • Request, source and purchase PPE’s and other safety accessories, ensure that requirements for First Aid, Fire prevention and fighting are adequate; receive, study, evaluate all near miss / unsafe condition & come up with solutions. Execute the solutions to avert incidents in future.
  • Ensure monthly safety newsletters, circulated to all buildings and with contents from all buildings capturing catalogued safety incidents, unsafe acts and conditions etc and clearly stating lessons learned from these incidents
  • Prepare and maintain audit documentations for internal and external audits, Maintain the info-data site for ease of document retrieval; ensure all data loaded is relevant and updated.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by GM - HR in line with Business Objectives,
  • Key performance indicators (KPI)

  • 100% monitoring of safety & compliance work procedures - processes and product shall meet regulatory specifications always
  • 100% Compliance with internal / external safety and compliance audits as well as CAP close out
  • Daily factory safety / compliance inspections and weekly reporting.
  • Enforcement of the safe use of equipment & PPE
  • 100% prevention of unsafe conditions and take corrective action
  • Not more than 10mins response time for first safety personnel to arrive at scene of an incident
  • Zero fatality record.
  • 100% compliance to documented timeline commitments (Tasks / Assignments and To-Dos from meetings)

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) required :

  • Transformational knowledge of Health and Safety
  • Ability to manage risk
  • Good knowledge of safety and compliance policies, processes and procedure to ensure that products and processes meet quality requirements and the implementation of policies
  • Knowledge of production systems and ability to support same
  • General business knowledge
  • Ability to inspect / audit breaches in safety and compliance
  • Ability to work with minimal or no supervision
  • Proven communication and knowledge dissemination ability to enhance employees’ awareness and education on compliance to Safety procedures
  • Academic qualifications and experience required :

  • University Degree
  • A Master’s degree in related subject (optional)
  • At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing environment
  • NEBOSH IGC Certification
  • Experienced Trainer
  • Working knowledge of Management systems standards & implementation
