The Human Resource Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all human resource policies, systems, and processes to ensure efficient workforce management in alignment with company objectives and compliance with Ghanaian labor laws. As part of a unionized environment under the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU), the HR Manager will also serve as the primary liaison between management and the union, ensuring effective labor relations and industrial harmony.
Tasks
Human Resource Planning & Administration
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the company’s business goals.
- Manage workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and retention programs.
- Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, and HR documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including SSNIT, PAYE, and Tier 2 / 3 pension schemes.
Industrial and Employee Relations
Act as the main liaison between management and the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU).Manage collective bargaining negotiations, grievance procedures, and disciplinary actions in accordance with labor laws and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).Promote a positive work culture through open communication, respect, and fairness.Handle workplace conflicts and ensure prompt resolution of employee issues.Performance Management & DevelopmentDesign and implement performance appraisal systems to enhance productivity and accountability.Identify training needs and coordinate capacity-building programs for employees.Promote talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiativesCompensation and Benefits Administration
Develop and manage competitive compensation structures in compliance with industry standards and union agreements.Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in coordination with the finance department.Oversee employee welfare, health and safety, and benefit administration programs.Policy Development & Compliance
Formulate and regularly review HR policies, ensuring alignment with Ghana Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards within the manufacturing environment.Prepare HR reports and metrics to support management decision-making.Organizational Culture & Engagement
Foster a performance-driven, safety-conscious, and inclusive workplace culture.Lead employee communication and engagement initiatives that boost morale and productivity.Organize team-building and staff welfare activities.Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or related field.Master’s degree or professional certification (CIPD, IHRMP, SHRM) will be an advantage.Minimum of 5–8 years of HR management experience, preferably in a manufacturing or unionized environment.In-depth knowledge of Ghana Labour Laws, the ICU Collective Bargaining Agreement, and industrial relations practices.Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.Excellent leadership, organizational, and conflict resolution abilities.Proficiency in MS Office and HR software applications.
