EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in finance, accounting or any related field of study.
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of working experience in finance leadership roles, preferably in the shipping and logistics industry.
  • Professional certification in ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountant), CA (Chartered Accountant) is an added advantage. REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of financial principles and modelling.
  • Ability to prepare and analyse financial statement.
  • Knowledge of financial budgeting, forecasting, presentation and strategic analysis.
  • Must be familiar with the financial regulations in West African markets and maritime finance.
  • Ability to align financial strategies with overall business plan.
  • Proficiency in SAGE, Xero and Microsoft office suite.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be mathematically inclined with the ability to analyse numerical data and interpret complex numerical information.
  • Ability to speak French fluently is an added advantage.

Our client, a leading import and export company is seeking to hire an experienced financial leader with expertise in accounting to oversee financial operations across various west African countries.

ROLE PROFILE

The selected candidate will be overseeing financial planning, reporting, budgeting, compliance, and risk management, guiding the company’s financial strategy to thrive within the dynamic shipping sector.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement financial strategies tailored to improve business processes.
  • Lead annual budgeting processes and financial forecasting for shipping operations and quarterly management accounts reporting to review performance with budget for all countries.
  • Ensure adherence to international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and organisation for the harmonisation of business law in Africa (OHADA), local accounting regulations, and maritime financial standards.
  • Ensure completion of all balanced sheet reconciliations, prepayment, accruals, etc.
  • Ensure all types of taxes and pensions are filed accurately and timely for all locations.
  • Compute the PAYE (pay as you earn), pensions and payroll of employees.
  • Identify financial risks related to shipping operations and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee liquidity management, payment cycles and prompt receivables follow-ups and collection.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including port authorities, tax authorities, external auditors, etc.
  • Manage and mentor finance teams across multiple locations.
