Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Field Manager, the Field Assistant’s main focus will be to support the Field Manager in all field operations, including the efficient management and maintenance of equipment.
The field support will be responsible for assisting in the collection, monitoring and analysis of environmental data in the field. He or she will work closely with field manager to collect and analyze samples from various sources, including water, air and soil. He or she must have a strong understanding of environmental sampling, laboratory analysis, and data collection and management. The field assistant must be able to adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate safety equipment at all times. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, clients’ staff, and regulatory agencies. This position requires a great deal of flexibility and the ability to travel to remote locations for sampling.
Responsibilities
- Help collect samples to assess pollution of air, water and soil
- Assist in setting up instruments for data collection
- Monitor pollutants from specific sites, such as a smoke stack or runoff from a stream
- Assist in cleaning and maintenance of instruments and equipment
- Assist in the planning and execution of environmental assessments and remediation projects
- Follow safety regulations
- Help prepare schedules, reports and keep records
- Discuss and analyze test results
Qualification and Skills Required
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related fieldPrevious fieldwork or internship experience in environmental monitoring or related areasKnowledge of environmental regulations and compliance practicesProficiency in using environmental testing and sampling equipmentStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication abilitiesExperience with data analysis software and reporting toolsAble to work well independently as wells as in a teamExcellent observation skillsCertifications related to environmental technology or science is an added advantage
